The sustainable development goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 have now become a global initiative tackled by the world as one. One company in Washi-no-sato, in the city of Mino in Gifu Prefecture, that has adopted SDGs is Marujyu Paper Company, which manufactures machine-made Minowashi. The company’s mission of "Making Mino and washi paper great" has been combined with SDG 11: "Creating sustainable cities and communities." With this in mind, the company is working to make Mino a sustainable city and washi a sustainable industry. A local electric power company and a city development company have been established as part of the effort to make Mino a sustainable city. Furthermore, in order to make washi a sustainable industry, businesses handling tourism, retail and raw materials are being developed. Through this tour, learn more about these regional revitalization SDGs initiatives and how a sustainable society can be realized.
