Ways to Enjoy Winter in Tohoku and Sendai
In the Miyagi Ski Resort in Tohoku, not only the powder snow attracts the skiers, but also plenty of programs such as "snowshoeing" and "snow play" allow skiers to enjoy their time with snow. It's recommended to enjoy skiing, hot springs, as well as shopping and nightlife in Sendai.

Miyagi Zao Eboshi Ski Resort

A skiing resort located around Zao Quasi-national Park. The long, panoramic skiing course that starts at 1,350m above sea level is enjoyable even for beginners. Powder snow, commonly seen on skiing grounds on the Pacific side of Japan, is an appealing factor as well.
On ski season weekends, there are free shuttle buses departing from Togatta Onsen.

Access from Sendai:
About 50 minutes from JR Tohoku Shinkansen Shiroishi-Zao Station by local bus to Togatta Onsen.
About 40 minutes from JR Sendai Station by highway bus to Togatta Onsen; about 65 minutes to Zao Town

Zao Fox Village

About 25 minutes by taxi from JR Tohoku Shinkansen Shiroishi-Zao Station.

Abukuma River

Passengers ride a boat down the Abukuma River Valley, a distance of 4 km one way and 8 km round trip. A boatman guides passengers to various scenic spots and strangely shaped rocks. There are different views to enjoy in each season, and from December to March boats run that are heated with a warm, comfy kotatsu table. Enjoy the gentle flow of the river while partaking of a hot pot dish.

Yamamoto Town Strawberry Picking

Miyagi is the largest producer of strawberries in the Tohoku region. In the town of Yamamoto, the warm climate is utilized to cultivate strawberries that can be picked from January to late May. Visitors can have fun picking and tasting the fresh, flavorful strawberries.
